Robert & Tina Vega
Houston, Texas

Robert Vega was a finalist in the inaugural season of The Big Squeeze in 2007 and can be seen in the 2009 documentary, The Big Squeeze. He is a native of the greater Houston area and resides in Missouri City, Texas. Vega comes from a musical family, having performed with Tina y Los Gallitos and Promesa Mortal for many years. Robert Vega and his sister Tina Vega are one half of the Houston "Rockteño" group, Promesa Mortal. His sister backs him up on bajo sexto. Vega and his siblings were homeschooled, enabling them to focus on pursuing a career playing music.

At the age of 9, Robert Vega began learning the squeezebox as his father realized he had been removing his Santa Marsala accordion from its case. At the age 16, Robert began playing with the family band. Today, Promesa Mortal incorporates various styles of rock, conjunto, norteno- or “rockteno” as they call it. Living legends Flaco Jimenez and Ramon Ayala and the late Tony De La Rosa are regarded as primary influences. Promesa Mortal released their first CD in 2011, “Breaking Free”. Website [3]
