Innovation Academy at Martin (IAM) Listening Parties
March 9, 2017 at Martin Middle School
9:10am - student premiere
5:00pm - student and parent listening party
We are proud to announce the premiere of a new series of radio stories for the Stories from Deep in the Heart, in collaboration with the Innovation Academy at Martin (IAM). The new pieces cover a broad range of students' community and family traditions. Student-produced stories will be played first for the IAM 7th grade class at 9:10am on March 9, then for parents and students at a listening event at 5pm on March 9.
This was an exciting new project for Texas Folklife, as this production program was chosen to be the capstone project for the IAM 7th grade class. Students worked throughout Fall 2016 to choose their stories, gather interviews, conduct additional fieldwork, and work with their interviews in Audacity. Final stories were polished by Texas Folklife producers Michelle Mejia and Carlos Salazar.
This is the third time Texas Folklife has partnered with Martin MS, and the first time to work with the new Innovation Academy. Previous stories from Martin can be found at https://soundcloud.com/texasfolklife/sets/martin-middle-school-fall-2014. This year's stories will be available online after the listening party.
“Stories from Deep in the Heart” is supported in part by the members of Texas Folklife, and through grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts and an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art; the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division and Department of Telecommunications & Regulatory Affairs Grant for Technology Opportunities (GTOPS); and generous support from the Austin Independent School District and KUT News 90.5 FM.
